Title: Black Fred Perry polos wi' yellow piping.
Post by: The Laird of Enfield on March 09, 2019, 02:18:30 PM
Readin' an article oan whit passes fur politics n' the USA these days.

Seems like these shirts huv been adopted as some kinda uniform by the "Proud Boys".  Fred Perry themsel's no happy aboot the association.

Had yin back in the days when ah wis a skinny teenager, but that colour option wid seem tae be oot the question noo.     :-[

Hopefully these pr1cks dinnae expand thir fashion palette.

The only time ah went tae the states ah wis quizzed aboot a Celtic t shirt ah wis wearin' which had a badge wi' a Celtic cross markin' the club's 125th anniversary.  Seemingly the Celtic cross kin huv right wing associations there n'aw.  (Aw a bit sad n' ironic considerin' Celtic FC wur founded by immigrants).  Everyhing wis fine once ah'd explained the badge but jist goes tae show how assumptions kin be easily made.

Any ay oor stateside posters had tae burn thir black polo shirts tae avoid bein' branded "alt right"?  Whit colour alternatives ur yese wearin'  tae identify yirsel' as a open minded modernist?

Never liked the black and yellow colours. Hadnít heard this was adopted by meatheads but those are not exactly the circles I run in and I doubt theyíd welcome me either!

I have a black FP with royal blue piping, and one with sky and red piping. Wonít be burning them!

Not sure if it's the same right now, but those black FP polos with yellow pippin could get you into trouble here some years ago, as they were seen as skinhead/extreme right clobber.

Blimey I didnt know about the potential political connection with that colourway. I don't have any that colour, mainly blue or  burgundy variants but it will make me think if I did want one.

I read all that stuff about the black/yellow FP polo and the US extreme right some months ago, and since then I havenít been able to wear mine. It was the first FP polo I bought, many moons ago, so I have a soft spot for it. Anyway, these days I prefer button-down shirts, my FP obsession is thing of the past.

Me neither which wis why ah posted.

Could get yirsel' intae potential bother if ye owned yin n' went oan holiday tae the States wi' it packed in yir case.

Ah bought yin back in the day cos ah'd seen Foxton wearin' yin n' it wis a better choice than copyin' his crap haircut.    ;D

The closer I've been to that colour scheme was a black w. white piping FP polo I had 20+ years ago, loved it and wore it often till it fell to pieces. Currently I just own some of their "reissues" knitted polos.

I couldn`t care less what a load of American boneheads are wearing ,it wouldnt stop me wearing or buying a black/yellow FP  if i wanted one.  Ive had comments in the past about my skinhead look, ( ive been mixing mod/skinhead/casual looks for years ) ,but it shows more about their ignorance than mine.

I have one, very rarely wear it as like most of the standard FP stuff it washes awful and has lost its colour and shape.

Pretty much my view too. If people want to make ridiculous assumptions thatís their lookout. Same for when I wear union flag or St George flag pins. Iím hardly likely to espouse those dodgy right wing nutter philosophies with a Ghanaian missus and a biracial bairn!

Great colour polo. Ignore all the other idiots and wear it if you like it.  Nobody should ever be judged on their clothing.  Well almost nobody  :o

That's strange. I thought an ill fitting boxy suit and too long red tie were the official uniform of white nationalism.... :o

Interesting - I think thereís probably a lot of variation with FP (and Lacoste too) in their dyes and how well they maintain their colours. Iíve had some FPs that after only a few washes started to look decidedly faded which is not on when you consider the price versus so many other brands. It may have a lot to do with where theyíre made.

M12 made in UK and M120 the 3 button Japanese one generally were much better.  This was a few years ago, not sure now.  they were worth the extra cash in the long run.

I live in the US and have a black FP with yellow and royal blue piping, but have had any issues. I think some proud boys get pepe frog or the name"proud boys" embroidered under the laurel leaf as further identification, so that's usually more of a marker than just the shirt. To be honest, the whole thing started as a joke, and will probably die out after a while, so I'm not changing my lifestyle because of some blip on the radar.

I liked the response from the Fred Perry Chairman. You can also most hear him thinking "oh for f..ks sake".

I read the article on the 'proud boys' and couldn't help giggling at this bit:-

"The second degree involves taking a beating from five other Proud Boys until you can say the name of five breakfast cereal brands. This level also requires the initiate give up masturbation. The third degree means you must get a "Proud Boy" tattoo."

5 breakfast cereal brands? What has this got to do with the master race?
Giving up masturbation? How do they police that rule?

It's a crazy world out there people.

I guess if you're into white supremacist theories your head's not working properly in the first place, so you can expect all kinds of weirdness and bulls**t from this lot.

i was going to put up a jokey comment about their rules ,last night ,but instead i had a bit of a read up about this lot .
I havn`t been able to find any white supremacist  rhetoric coming from them ,and it seems when a few American newspapers have accused them of it ,they have been subject to legal action . They definately seem a Right of centre group ,that`s prepared to use violence ,but it seems to be against the Antfa organisation ,and in my experience Antifa in ,Britain certainly , Antfa cause a lot more trouble than they solve.
The rules seem like a bit of a joke ,as well , not to be taken to seriously . They seem like a Conservative boys club .
I might be wrong because its only what i found out with a bit of googling , and before this thread i`d never heard of them , but like Rod , my family is like the United Colours of Bennetton ! So i`m not really up on Neo Nazi groups .
