In other news, domain and hosting renewed, Jump The Gun sponsorship in place.

I do spend a lot of time thinking about enhancing and updating the forum, but in truth, Iím not technically strong enough to do anything radical with it and paying someone would be costly. Be great to make it more phone-friendly.

...As for blogs, besides my own which was my attempt to fill a void, Iím only aware of the lad in Canada who posts very rarely and again has a heavy leaning towards music and his DJ adventures which donít interest me....
Rod, the blogger from Canada isn't from Quebec by any chance, is he?  A fellow named Dominic?

Nah Patrick - ĎParka Avenueí Used to be a decent read but itís more recently descended into boring stuff about his music taste and DJing. Very sporadic entries now too.

There was another lad I think in the Bay Area who had a blog named Mod Male but itís been dormant for ages. Weíre not missing much, he had that juvenile style which reminds me thereís Move On Up which is a smoggy lad who writes in a similar way. He manages to score some clothes freebies and just gushes over everything.

I must be doing it wrong as I can count on my fingers the number of times Iíve been offered or given free clothing in the history of both Modculture and His Knibs. Thatís no bad thing by the way. If you do get freebies, you would have to disclose fully you had been given free samples or you would be in legal hot water. I also canít see how you can write a balanced account of something if you have effectively been Ďpaidí to be positive. Just doesnít work.

Right, spoken to Adam, who is going to sponsor the forum in return for having a Jump The Gun banner on here. Huge thanks to him and that should mean the forum continuing for another 12 months.

Yeah Iím a bit torn. I know some folk really enjoy it but itís an extra responsibility both financial and personal that I canít handle right now.

Hi all,
Itís time to renew the forum and to be honest, I canít really afford to do it for another year. £150 is a lot of money to pay out for anyone, especially with no way of getting that back. With that in mind, I might have to close it this time round.

Before itís suggested, Iím not looking or contributions for this, as I donít really want to owe people money or have to spend time working on it if it happens to go down. Iíll happily give advice if anyone wants to start an alternative forum, but I just donít want to continue paying out for something I canít find time to use myself these days.

Really sorry about all of this, but hopefully everyone understands.

Cheers,
Dave

This is very nice, but awfy pricey at £150.

Niiiice, I usually keep an eye on LVC's new offerings, but this one I'd missed. Bloody expensive, though!

All the sizes of this are back in at Levi's:

I also asked on the Sunderland ready to go message board (which is massive and has a huge readership - curiously discussion about SAFC is only a small part!! - what they were doing and the answer was basically nothing. While they understand people like Dave being paranoid about receiving hefty fines for non compliance, the owner seems to think that message boards like his (and this one) are not likely to be in the firing line so heís just ignoring it.

I met the guy who ran that once at a Google event (I think). If he still uses Google ads, ignoring is likely to get him into serious bother. Google is rally cracking down hard on people who work with them who don't work to the letter of the law.

Right, going to take the forum off public viewing for now and work out a solution of some kind. Might have to do a big upgrade at some point. But not right now as I'm snowed under. Might delete everyone who hasn't signed in for a period of time too.

Another option would be to set up a closed Facebook group until I can sort out a more permanent solution.

Foreign ownership isnít really a workaround. If you have European traffic, itís an issue. Hence why so many non-European corporations are doing so much work with it.

My issue right now is that I also have a bunch of blogs and websites, all of which need work in regard to it. The forum is on that list, but as it is all about data, it is probably the trickiest. I really donít  have time to restart a forum, as itís a pain to set up and massively time consuming. The options are to find a way to work with the legislation or close it either temporarily until a solution can be found or permanently. Iíll decide by the end of this week.
