Benjamin has Just announced his Autumn tour , so chance to catch him playing small venues (gorilla Manchester ,tickets secured)  interested in where u saw him previous monkey, was it supporting jack white ?
The new album is definitely high in my end of year list , his debut album was also impressive had this track on constant repeat at the time, the ending where the guitars/band crash in is just sublime .

No, was supporting Mavis Staples a couple of years back at the Union Chapel in Islington. In fairness, it was just him and a guitar so not really fair to judge on that. At the time I thought he was just like millions of other wannabe singer-songwriters but has proved since there's a bit more about him.

I know Rocketman posted this album up in the "Recent Vinyl Purchases" section but I have to reiterate what a superb 2nd album Benjamin Booker's "Witness" is!

Been listening to some of this. No huge surprise I like the Mavis Staples featured track but the others are pretty good too. Saw him live a couple of years back and didn't do much for me but I'm gradually getting it!

Anyone ever slimmed down their collection?

In the process now.  Albums wasn't too hard, but singles is a toughie,  I'm trying to get down to around 200 singles with it ever evolving...bit like John Peels record box...with only my favourites surviving the cull.

Have to say it's quite a cleansing experience knowing all my albums/singles are going to be played and not just part of a collection.

Did get rid of 100s of LPs about six years ago due to financial/accommodation pressures. Part of me definitely regrets it, in a way, but felt had little choice at the time. Pleased I didn't touch my singles (bar one or two) and only released those from the "rock and pop" rather than the "soul and jazz" sections. In truth there aren't many I've gone to play only to find I've not got them anymore. A few times.

Was a new name to me too. Really like 'Count Me Out' too, also featured on the Night Comes Down comp.

Many thanks greenstreet, really appreciate your time and glad you enjoyed it. That version was completely new to me until a month or so ago when I heard it in a club and tried to track it down. Credit to Dave Modculture for cracking it and uncovering it when everyone else failed! Great version.

Howdy,

Just a quick plug to say I'll be presenting latest Monkey's Wandering Wireless Show tonight on Fusion 2030-2130 (UK time). Just an hour of music I'd hope Modculturers would enjoy.

If you're free hit here in time for the start: http://mixlr.com/fusion-on-air/

Thanks people.

Very much my feelings too. It's not a great (or even particularly good) album to begin with and I'm not one for pouring over stereo vs mono debates. Suppose it'll depend on the price of Fame...

Yep, in agreement. Soulful, summery, tuneful. It's flipping great - and I'm no Weller-flunkie.

Monkey...any cover scans to post? For nostalgia sake?

Next time I'm at my parents' I'll dig some out.
