Dexys. "Let the record show: Dexys do Irish and country soul" ....... from 2016. Bought it on the strength of Grazing in the Grass. Hated the rest at first ....... now love it.

Even though it wasn't really "my era", late '70s and early '80s punk was really ..... I liked a lot of the britpop era stuff. I used to DJ at a club night called modernworld around 1996 and we got sent loads of singles to play out. I thought Oasis were great at the start ...... Supersonic I thought was superb. I got to see them at a little venue in Southampton called The Joiners (held about 150) on a co-headline tour with a band called Whiteout who I thought were really good.

I think the Britpop era threw up some great singles although I can't in all honesty say that the albums I have are packed with similar quality, although similar to the mod revival bands of the "79 era maybe? For me OCS had some decent quality, Shed 7 too. The club I DJ-ed had a band called Santa Cruz who played a couple of times, from Bristol ..... they were great i thought although not sure they wanted to be pigeonholed as Britpop.

I also liked the stuff coming out under the Acid Jazz banner ....... Corduroy I got to see around "91 in Nottingham, at the University bar and there was only a handful of other people there. I'd seen Boys Wonder previously too, some people say they're the original Britpop band.

I thought the Weller early stuff was great too ..... The Paul Weller Movement tour gave a hint but the first album, Wild Wood and Stanley Road I though were excellent. These days I still like his more acoustic stuff.

Fantastic, thanks for that hipshaker. My brother brought our tickets, but he's lying in the sun in Zante atm, he's home on Saturday so will find out about the refund then.

No worries, still plenty on I think.

As for the refund, we were told they were all processed. The hotel set the online payment system up so we're at the mercy of the info they give us. They're straight up people so should all be sorted.

Scoots and scootering / Re: Lambretta Vendetta
« on: July 05, 2017, 10:30:40 AM »
After all the PX chat I must admit that I have heard reasonable reports about the Scomadi and excellent things about the Vespa GTS but still the PX is best choice as a true classic.
Meanwhile I am about to shoehorn a modern vespa 125 engine (auto) into a 1952 Lambretta LD ( very early French one) .  Should be a laugh, don't tell the purists. Photo later in the year if it works out.

I don't mind the look of the new Lambretta ...... there's been loads of criticism about the loss and how it won't appeal to scooterists here, however I imagine that will be just a small part of their market.
I've got a GTS 300 and I have to say it is excellent for work. Very quick away from the lights, agile enough to filter in most situations and comfortable on the motorway. The only downside is i miss the smell and sound of 2 stroke. I like the look too ...... but then i also like the ET and LX models. I'm not a fan of the boxy PX shape, although i had a T5. I keep the Lambrettta for Sundays.

As expected Friday has sold out too ......... we released an extra 50 tickets for each night but they went fairly quickly. Still a few left for Sunday and a couple of hotel B7B packages left too.
