I went in at Christmas and bought a shirt from them. I concur that it's a nice little shop, decent lay out and good customer service.

Looks dodgy to me. There's a few grammar mistakes in there and they're using the Loake logo which I'm pretty sure is illegal. They also have all those shoes in all sizes ..... really?

They were a bit overpriced and I didn't like a lot of their stuff - a bit too much 60's psychedelia/Beatles obsession for me.

But that said, I got a couple of nice knits in their New Year sale. Decent quality and nice fit. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for any closing down bargains.

Mod fashion and style / Ben Sherman Archive Modernist shirt
« on: March 15, 2019, 03:54:46 PM »
Has anyone bought any of the Ben Sherman Archive Modernist shirts?

And if you have what's the collar like? Is it a proper 3 finger button down?

At £80 I am not tempted as I can buy a DNA shirt for that price. But they might turn up in sales.

I liked the response from the Fred Perry Chairman. You can also most hear him thinking "oh for f..ks sake".

San Francisco is the home of Goorin Bros. hat shop. I got a nice pork pie hat from the one in Haight Street. And Haight Street itself is worth a look as it was the centre of the hippy counter culture in the 60's. Bit commercialised now but there are some interesting vintage shops, cafes and more tie dies than you can shake a stick at (shudder).

If you do buy a hat remember to take the hat box. I forgot and had to wear my hat on the flight home for fear of it getting squashed. I also wear my glasses on log haul flight and when I got to passport control, they looked at my passport (sans hat and glasses) and then at me and asked if I was travelling in disguise.

Seems reasonable to me. Alterations to jackets are fiddly.

Got to say I love the look of a lot of their clothes. But as other contributors have said, the prices are a bit off putting.

Good luck to him though.

James Stewart in “Vertigo”, Gene Hackman in “The French Connection” (the hat alone wins it a spot for me), Richard Roundtree in “Shaft”, just about every Sean Connery outfit in “Goldfinger” (exempting of course the infamous blue towelling playsuit), Michael Caine’s wardrobe in “The Italian Job” and am I missing something or has no one mentioned “The Avengers” TV series? Or is it too obvious?

Personally though it’s not particularly “Mod” I was always fascinated by 1930s and 1940s black and white moves where everyone seemed to wear a suit and tie, smart overcoat and a hat on a daily basis.

If you're in the London area I second Discount Shoes at Strutton Ground.Very good prices. Ring or e-mail them if you have a specific shoe in mind and they'll tell you the price. They don't sell online but they will post shoes out and I find that they consistently beat all online outlets for price.
