Banter / GDPR and the forum
« on: May 07, 2018, 07:02:56 PM »
Hi all,
I will keep this as brief and as clear as I can. Basically GDPR comes into effect later this month and it will have an impact on this forum as well as all others.

Every action online needs explicit consent and every cookie used, IP address logged, every link out etc will need to be checked and all data accessible by me as I will need to be in a position to either delete it or locate if as required by the individual concerned. In short, this is hell for forums.

With huge fines and vague legislation, Iím not in a position to take it on as it stands. So it looks like I will have to kill off the forum unless I get advice to the contrary. It isnít what I want to do as I know some of you love the place. But I canít see any other option. I just donít have the resources to keep on top of it all.

Iíll update you as and when I know more.
Thanks,
Dave

Banter / So what to do with the forum?
« on: January 28, 2016, 02:01:32 PM »
Hello all and apologies for not being on here as much as I would have liked of late. Couple of kids since I restarted the forum, not to mention work!

Anyway, I do keep an eye on it, not least because I'm not sure what to do with it. With renewal due next month, have to think about it right now really.

I like the idea of a forum it's useful and popular - I get a lot of people asking to join. Sadly, due to problems with dodgy applicants, ive had to close membership for now. If I keep it on, might have top spend some time updating. Got a few weeks to think about it and ponder if the forum needs a more radical overhaul.

Hope everyone's well regardless!

Haven't got much on this, but found out tonight that the BBC are currently making a documentary about London and the mod scene.

Don't know much else right now, except that they're doing some filming for it at an upcoming Quadrophenia book launch event later this month. That doesn't sound great on the face of it, but it might just be a bit of padding for the rest of the material.

I'll keep my ear to the ground...

Banter / For anyone waiting for an account on forum to be approved
« on: April 23, 2014, 03:24:15 PM »
Having difficulty working out potential spam types and genuine signups right now - if you've signed up but not been approved, drop me a line via the main site and I'll approve straight away.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Banter / Random London pub question
« on: April 23, 2014, 09:55:47 AM »
Just a quick one - can anyone recommend any decent pubs / bars in the Shoreditch area?

I'm out on a pub crawl there soon and suspect it might be case of the blind leading the blind - so any help would be appreciated!

Banter / I need two seconds of your time as a favour!
« on: March 19, 2014, 10:42:34 AM »
Just a quick one (and not mod at all), but I just need a quick favour off you all.

Basically, my WowHaus site has been shortlisted for the PrimeLocation blog awards. I don't think there's a prize, but the esteem would be nice.  ;)

Anyway, it's down to a public vote - and voting takes seconds. So if you (or anyone you know) can vote for me, I'll love you forever.

The voting is here:

 - and Wow Haus is under 'best blog'.

Thanks in advance!

I have flagged this up on main site, but if you missed it, Absolute Beginners is a 99p Kindle deal today - probably until midnight.

Haven't got the link - just head to amazon.co.uk and go to Kindle section, in the daily deals there.

Banter / Forum - coming up to a year
« on: January 07, 2014, 05:24:09 PM »
Hi,
You might remember me saying that I would give the forum a year, then see how things are. The year milestone is next month (when I have to pay out again for the hosting!)

To be honest, not sure what to do, Had a few ongoing technical problems with the forum, which I'm hoping I'm on top of now. However, I have struggled to find time to use the forum myself due to work and life pressures, so been hard to keep on top of it as I would like.

But I do know a number of you appreciate it being here and with that in mind, I'm mindful to keep it going.
