Clubs and club chat / King Bee Club - Sheffield - February 14th.
« on: January 29, 2015, 09:11:44 PM »
Hi folks, I've got the pleasure of being the guest DJ at the legendary King Bee Club's 2nd anniversary! Hope to see you there, happy to meet up for a couple of beers prior, give us a PM if you're keen or want details.

Event details from the Facebook page as follows -

Well it's hard to believe, but true. Next month sees the 2nd Anniversary of The King Bee Club. It's been 24 mad months in that packed to the rafters upstairs room at Shakespeares Sheffield. Incredible music courtesy of the three discateers Gav Arno, Graham Wright , Joe Dutton and an amazing array of top notch guest DJ's. And a packed dancefloor and party atmosphere that I truly believe can't be beaten by any other club in the country, courtesy of you wonderful King Bees and Queens. We've probably drunk the equivalent of the English channel in the last two years as well, just to get the dancing joints oiled of course. As well as being the 2nd anniversary the next King Bee happens to fall on Valentines night and I'm sure there is nowhere finer to spend the evening. We'll have a free CD given out to the first 30 people in the club to commemorate the occasion and I'm sure our three resident Luv Bugs will be playing a few Valentine themed tunes. There's even a rumour going round that Joe (who can't resist dressing up) is turning up as Cupid. But don't let that put you off!

Our guest DJ is someone I've heard nothing but great reports about and will be making his King Bee debut. It's great to get someone a tad younger than normal spinning the tunes. I'm sure you'll make him welcome, and I'm sure he'll have you tearing up the dancerfloor. So in the usual King Bee fashion I'll let Jonny Monk introduce himself....."Stuck in a tiny isolated town on the Welsh border armed with musically nothing but the top 40 or a handful of 50's rock 'n' roll CD's I received one Christmas, I'll admit it wasn't difficult to make the decision of which particular pool to dip my toe into... Until I was rudely corrupted by the NME to turn into a little indie snob in my college years; fortunately that phase soon passed, with it's mod 'fad' (that it's still going through), and plimsoles quickly became Italian brogues, but the desire to find new, unheard of tunes remained!
After meeting a few like-minded folks online on various forums etc and at a couple of nights, we soon began swapping R&B and soul tunes, getting more and more comptetive as we sought to find more and more obscure tracks, sparking a new and enjoyable (expensive) addiction in the process. Unfortunately the glossy northern soul scene didn't do it for me, so delving deeper and deeper into the dark, debauched world of raucous rhythm and blues and sultry popcorn ignited a passion which is set to stay with me for the rest of my life.
Having only collected for a couple of years now, and obsessively acquiring a wide and varied selection of 7" black gold, since last year have I had the pleasure of co-running a local night and guesting at a couple more, so naturally as a relative newbie to the scene, I'm excited and honoured to be bringing a box down to a club as revered as the mighty King Bee! The music policy is 100% up my street, moving the right direction away from the ever growing, over saturated northern soul sea out there, and rightly earning it's place as one of the top clubs in the country. I buy my records based on one critical factor - dancability! So expect an eclectic selection of rough 'n' tough rockin' R&B, finger snapping popcorn for the hipsters and a few growling tittyshakers just to stir things up a bit.
Can't wait to see you there, can't wait to dance my socks off. Happy 2nd Anniversary King Bee. Let's make it a good'n.
