Howdy,

Just a quick plug to say I'll be presenting latest Monkey's Wandering Wireless Show tonight on Fusion 2030-2130 (UK time). Just an hour of music I'd hope Modculturers would enjoy.

If you're free hit here in time for the start: http://mixlr.com/fusion-on-air/

Thanks people.

Scoots and scootering / Buckingham Palace Scooter Run, 1 May 2016

My esteemed colleague Dr Gonzo suggested I post a few pics up on here from Sunday's little rideout. So, here's a few (hopefully, I've never posted photos before so could go tits-up...). Anyone else go?

Films / TV / MC5 - A True Testimonial (2002)

Okay, they weren't mods but I know enough of you like them. If you've not seen the 2002 documentary get on it quick before it gets pulled again, and then tell me they weren't the greatest live band to ever thread the boards...

Yep, you read that right. Christ, am I excited? Not long to wait either. Kept nicely quiet by Top Sounds Records.

General music chat / Brenda Holloway Interview
« on: March 09, 2014, 09:45:17 AM »
I don't usually post direct links to stuff on my page but please excuse it this time as I was more than a bit excited to chat to Brenda Holloway recently. Always been my favourite Motown lady and she is even more now!

If you're interested, here it is:  http://monkey-picks.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/my-life-has-been-beautiful-brenda.html

Cheers.

Art and illustration / POP ART DESIGN
« on: January 03, 2014, 11:50:59 AM »
Went to the Pop Art Design exhibition at the Barbican, London the other day.

Much was very familiar - Warhol, Lichtenstein, Hamilton, Johns etc- but enjoyable and well worth it.

On until 9 February 2014. Details: http://www.barbican.org.uk/artgallery/event-detail.asp?ID=14797

Spotify playlists and online mixes / MONKEY PICKS OF 2013
« on: December 16, 2013, 05:11:25 PM »
I've cobbled together a selection of tunes from 2013. Was trying to narrow it down to 20 but couldn't quite make it so there are two bonus tracks.

Many have a hint - at least - of a 60s influence without being remotely "mod" (which is generally how I like things).

Here's a link if you fancy a listen.

Spotify playlists and online mixes / Shindig! Broadcast #01
« on: August 05, 2013, 07:36:14 PM »
Listening to this Mixcloud thingy done by the people at Shindig magazine.

It's two hours long so doubt I'll last the duration but worth a listen perhaps if you like the psychier end of stuff.

Films / TV / Beware of Mr. Baker
« on: May 23, 2013, 07:43:24 PM »
Beware of Mr. Baker - aptly named documentary/interview film about Ginger Baker - is out in selected cinemas.

Can also be viewed on-line from Curzon Films. Costs a tenner and get to keep it for a week. I watched it two days running. He's a total ballbag but does make for an entertaining film.
