Art and illustration / Recent purchases - prints for framing
« on: October 01, 2018, 05:24:41 PM »
Ordered these two: The Flamingo one was posted on the main Modculture forum and the Kinks' one is from the same seller on Etsy.  They come unframed and are A3 size and are "keenly priced", which is always a bonus. ;D

Films / TV / A Very Secret Service - Netflix TV show

Anyone else watched this? It's into the 2nd series, it's a French comedy with English subtitles set in a Government department in the early 60s and worth a look for the beautiful set designs. Some lovely suits as well.

Got my copy this morning.  It has a Jump the Gun photo shoot and a 6 page Mods to Suedehead feature which may be of interest to this parish.

Books and other printed media / Adam Diment - swinging 60s spy author
« on: April 04, 2017, 05:31:16 PM »
Found this article on The Guardian's website about long forgotten swinging 60s author Adam Diment and plans to re-publish his novels via crowdfunding.  There was a plethora of these types of novels at that time and they will no doubt have a period charm if nothing else. They're the sort of books that could have been picked up cheaply a few years ago in flea markets and car boot sales but now they have appreciated in value.

I also found this feature about him on the Another Nickel in the Machine blog which has some better photos...

General music chat / New Weller album A Kind Revolution
« on: March 30, 2017, 05:39:53 PM »
Just got an email that his next studio album is released in early May.  Found these two audio clips on YouTube

To be honest I've not been bowled over by the last couple of studio albums.  This one may be better.  I've pre-ordered the 3 disc CD.  The special edition 10" vinyl box set at 65 is, frankly, out of my price bracket for what is essentially one album.  I can buy quite a lot more music with that sort of money.

Interesting documentary from Radio 4 Extra about American jazz musicians moving to northern Europe during the 60s and 70s.

« on: January 31, 2017, 05:18:32 PM »
I've been expecting him to knock out a contract filling live album but I've just got an email about this upcoming Weller composed soundtrack album for the forthcoming British boxing film Jawbone.
