Spotify playlists and online mixes / New mix - Soulful Sunday
« on: January 28, 2018, 04:25:39 PM »
Hello!

Made it a New Year's resolution to kick off a mix series, so here's the first part of Soulful Sundays:

https://www.mixcloud.com/Robin_Murray/soulful-sunday-vol-1/

Raucous rhythm 'n' blues, sassy soul for dancers - ft. John Lee Hooker, Freddy King, Baby Washington, Dinah Washington + loads more. V much for the Mod persuasion! Hope you enjoy!

Mod fashion and style / Clarks Weavers

Hello!

Anyone wear Clarks Weavers?

https://www.oipolloi.com/collections/shoes/products/clarks-originals-weaver-slate-blue-suede-aw17#product

Quite tempted by these in the Sales, but put off by that hefty sole... how are they to wear?

General music chat / Magnus Carlson
« on: October 27, 2017, 08:04:00 PM »
Anyone else spotted Swedish singer Magnus Carlson?

Played before the latest Crossfire allnighter in London - band + vocalist were incredible, very Northern Soul in places but with a fuller, grittier sound.

Recently released an album called 'The Northern Soul Sessions' which is on Spotify - sounds a little like this though... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22w_-Kfoa_8

Would recommend for fans of Daptone, James Hunter - really good live sound!

Mod fashion and style / Varsity sweaters
« on: September 05, 2017, 08:13:33 PM »
Maybe it's the colder weather today but I'm definitely thinking about layers...

Anyone else a fan of varsity sweaters?

Vintage ones can be hard to come by, but this manufacturer in the States looks fairly classic:

Any other outlets people could recommend?

Hello!

Had the pleasure of DJing at Hot Jam up in Inverness at the weekend - the sets were actually recorded...

https://www.mixcloud.com/lokomotivrosco/robin-murray-set-1-hot-jam-2-may-2015/

Plenty of R&B, gritty soul and other tasty options in there... and past sets from residents / guests to peruse, too!

General music chat / Darrell Banks - 10 Grand?!
« on: June 27, 2014, 09:32:59 PM »
So Darrell Banks 'Open The Door' on London has turned up... the only copy in existence...

And it's valued at 10k! Could go higher at auction.

Thoughts? Worth the dosh? Any UK completists on here going to splash out?
