This is very nice, but awfy pricey at £150.

Niiiice, I usually keep an eye on LVC's new offerings, but this one I'd missed. Bloody expensive, though!

All the sizes of this are back in at Levi's:

I also asked on the Sunderland ready to go message board (which is massive and has a huge readership - curiously discussion about SAFC is only a small part!! - what they were doing and the answer was basically nothing. While they understand people like Dave being paranoid about receiving hefty fines for non compliance, the owner seems to think that message boards like his (and this one) are not likely to be in the firing line so heís just ignoring it.

I met the guy who ran that once at a Google event (I think). If he still uses Google ads, ignoring is likely to get him into serious bother. Google is rally cracking down hard on people who work with them who don't work to the letter of the law.

Right, going to take the forum off public viewing for now and work out a solution of some kind. Might have to do a big upgrade at some point. But not right now as I'm snowed under. Might delete everyone who hasn't signed in for a period of time too.

Another option would be to set up a closed Facebook group until I can sort out a more permanent solution.

Foreign ownership isnít really a workaround. If you have European traffic, itís an issue. Hence why so many non-European corporations are doing so much work with it.

My issue right now is that I also have a bunch of blogs and websites, all of which need work in regard to it. The forum is on that list, but as it is all about data, it is probably the trickiest. I really donít  have time to restart a forum, as itís a pain to set up and massively time consuming. The options are to find a way to work with the legislation or close it either temporarily until a solution can be found or permanently. Iíll decide by the end of this week.

Itís more detailed than a few people say yes. There are people on here who havenít posted for years but have data in the forum. Essentially I was I would have to go through everyone on the list. Itís very complicated for websites but forums and chat- based sites are probably the most complex.

I think the issue is that no one really knows fully what the impact will be. But the fines are huge so itís not something I want to consider if it comes to that. Just a Ďmare all round.

Hi all,
I will keep this as brief and as clear as I can. Basically GDPR comes into effect later this month and it will have an impact on this forum as well as all others.

Every action online needs explicit consent and every cookie used, IP address logged, every link out etc will need to be checked and all data accessible by me as I will need to be in a position to either delete it or locate if as required by the individual concerned. In short, this is hell for forums.

With huge fines and vague legislation, Iím not in a position to take it on as it stands. So it looks like I will have to kill off the forum unless I get advice to the contrary. It isnít what I want to do as I know some of you love the place. But I canít see any other option. I just donít have the resources to keep on top of it all.

Iíll update you as and when I know more.
Thanks,
Dave

Welcome aboard Mark - it's really good to see the place being rejuvenated with new (and returning) members.

Just authorised another batch, steady stream of requests to join still coming in...
