Even though it wasn't really "my era", late '70s and early '80s punk was really ..... I liked a lot of the britpop era stuff. I used to DJ at a club night called modernworld around 1996 and we got sent loads of singles to play out. I thought Oasis were great at the start ...... Supersonic I thought was superb. I got to see them at a little venue in Southampton called The Joiners (held about 150) on a co-headline tour with a band called Whiteout who I thought were really good.
I think the Britpop era threw up some great singles although I can't in all honesty say that the albums I have are packed with similar quality, although similar to the mod revival bands of the "79 era maybe? For me OCS had some decent quality, Shed 7 too. The club I DJ-ed had a band called Santa Cruz who played a couple of times, from Bristol ..... they were great i thought although not sure they wanted to be pigeonholed as Britpop.
I also liked the stuff coming out under the Acid Jazz banner ....... Corduroy I got to see around "91 in Nottingham, at the University bar and there was only a handful of other people there. I'd seen Boys Wonder previously too, some people say they're the original Britpop band.
I thought the Weller early stuff was great too ..... The Paul Weller Movement tour gave a hint but the first album, Wild Wood and Stanley Road I though were excellent. These days I still like his more acoustic stuff.
