Hi,
Mod Art is available and in stock from Waterstones on-line.    It's been available for the past 10 days or so.     I've got mine and it's great

General music chat / The Action box set
« on: June 15, 2018, 03:51:40 PM »
New 4-cd box set of The Action's output on the way from Cherry Red in September.

There's little new material but good to have all in one place.    And hopefully the quality of recordings will be the best possible.

Who'll be buying it?

After an extended break, Eddie Piller & Friends THE MODCAST appears to be back to regular monthly shows.     I think this month's with Mark Powell and Wayne from Buckhurst Hill is one of the best.
Do others tune in regularly?    What do you think of it?

Art and illustration / ROGER MAYNE - PHOTOGRAPHER'S GALLERY
« on: March 27, 2017, 10:55:01 AM »
There's a fantastic exhibition of Roger Mayne's photography at The Photographer's Gallery (off Gt Marlborough St).     It's mainly 50/60s b&w and wonderful stuff it is too.    He also produced photos for book covers including Absolute Beginners which led to a commission on Teenagers for Vogue.     Well worth a visit.

General music chat / THE CLAIM LPS
« on: March 13, 2017, 04:09:30 PM »
Hi,
Very late in the day, I've recently discovered Medway band, The Claim.     A great band.   They should have been huge.
I have a compilation CD, BLACK PATH, from a couple of years back but I'm trying to track down their albums - BOOMY TELLA and ARMSTRONG'S REVENGE - on CD if they were ever released.    Does anyone know if they're available or how I could get reasonably priced copies?     Vinyl seems to go for quite a price on ebay etc
Thanks

this looks worth checking out.    It was mentioned in one of the newspapers over the Xmas break.    Will try and get to it before end of month.

General music chat / THE FAITH BROTHERS - BILLY FRANKS RIP
« on: September 21, 2016, 11:55:36 AM »
Just seen this news on a few websites/forums.      A true talent and great guy.    One of the most underrated singer/songwriters of his generation.     I had the pleasure of seeing him at the Union Chapel last year - his dream gig.     Followed the Faith Brothers all around town in the 80s.     The Marquee was their second home.   Still the best live band that I've ever seen.
RIP Billy

Just dipping in to this weighty volume by Daniel Rachel (whose previous book on songwriters was excellent too).    It's pop and politics - from Rock against Racism to Red Wedge.   Lots of stuff on 2-Tone and Weller.    Rich territory.

Films / TV / THE BEATLES - EIGHT DAYS A WEEK
« on: September 16, 2016, 04:49:50 PM »
Did anyone go to screenings last night (Thurs)?    The film's great and a must for all Beatle fans.     The 30 mins concert film afterwards was an added bonus.     to be honest, I could have done without the hour's worth of red carpet (though it was blue) interviews beforehand....   Love to hear what others thought

Films / TV / Generation 66 - BBC4 doc
« on: August 01, 2016, 01:03:14 PM »
Did anyone see the Generation 66 doc on BBC4 last night?

Less than 5 mins in and this nugget comes up

"In 1966, 40% of the population were under 25 - including every member of the Beatles and the Stones"

Every member apart from Bill Wyman, John Lennon, Ringo Starr.....   Why don't they bother to check these things?

And when they touch upon Georgie Fame, why dig up probably the only clip in existence of him playing the guitar!?

I didn't bother going any further than that....
