Chilli   ma'man , which set up do you have at the moment ? You might be able to upgrade it . .
I have been on the upgrades path for half my life , equipment,  stands , cables , tonearms, cartridges,  stylus etc .
Buying a good hifi magazine would give you insight. It is not that complex but an interest that has waned with the arrival of downloads , streaming,  portable digital players etc
To me however,  there is still something almost magical to take out a much sought after 45, dust it down and cue it up , then sit  back and enjoy or dance as the case maybe. .

I’m not sure ‘Franco’ is a great choice for the Spanish market. I can’t imagine naming a collar style the ‘Hitler’ would go down well either in certain circles. What say you Syd?

 ;D

I make you right, Rod, but hey there's always a niche (see what I did here?) market for things like those, albeit luckily minimal.

In my experience , after the Tejero attempted coup d'eta failure , Spaniards put the Franco regime into the past. Certainly , if you said the name Franco to me l am more likely to recall my Italian second cousin than Bahamonde , especially since he and his regime have been gone for almost 50yrs , though the current loss of liberty , human rights and with the recent passing of a bill in this country , loss of free speech( makes it easier for corrupt politians to lie like fuck) all tends to make Franco look like a rather incompetent amatuer as a dictator.

I imagine many of you are like myself and enjoy listening to much of our music on vinyl via a turntable . ln 2020 the current trend for CD (and downloads now) sales declining was down to 16 million units . Magically though vinyl sales are prospering , last year they jumped 11.5% , an amazing stat' considering the stereo microgroove record first surfaced in 1958. A respectable 4.8 million copies were sold in a year where the GDP(according to the ONS) contracted by 9.9%- the biggest drop in GDP for 3 centuries !

In a conversation with my local HiFi shop last year the manager revealed that they are still selling a lot of mid range turntables and the customers are more often young people now .

I recently upgraded my own turntable again just a few days ago and with this being the umpteenth upgrade l have carried out , l was surprised to hear the noticeable improvement for such a small outlay . l realised that there is still possibly more info in those microgrooves to get yet . . .............. 8)

What set up have you got Simon?

I'm looking to upgrade my turntable and would be interested to hear what kind of setup you've got (or anybody else for that matter).

I have a modified , sic, Rega Plannar2. The RB 250 tonearm has had every upgrade l am aware of and has an Ortofon 25FL MC fitted to it which l am very pleased with . Over the last year I fitted an acrylic platter , alloy sub-platter and the ceramic bearing with the full Ringmat Support system above it . My cables are all Kimber Kables via Russ Andrews .
I did have a rather tired Sondek years ago , granted before the KImber Kables, that didn't sound as good as my current set up . Also worth investing in a some record cleaning kit if you don't have one already as the difference they make to reducing clicks, pops and static is amazing .

I do think the buttons through looks smart but l probably bought my last FP product a couple of years ago, way overpriced for what it is.11  Don't you just hate when corporations get political?
Other brands are available.

I thought this might be handy to have in the wardrope for a wee trip to the away end next season , or the one after that , or the one after that -or whenever we are allowed to congregate again . .(please delete as appropriate. .). .who knows , they might even bring back the porridge-munching kiosks.

Love that collar.

Yep, those are nice, Simon. Part of the new Ska & Soul range, if I'm not mistaken?

Si , you are not mistaken.  It was the collar that caught my eye , looks great.

I think the we have 2 different Manfred's basically . I think 'As Is' is a great album and l aquired it on vinyl back in the day . The original Manfreds are good too and made some superb 6ts pop records  but l think Paul Jones became a bit of a prima donna ( by the time he formed The Blues Band he was single handedly keeping MaxFactor in business) and D'Abo came in at the right time . I liked the off shoots when the D'Abo era finally wound up though I never really got into the Earth Band , even if Manfred did remain an undisputed talent.
