Rafa, there's absolutely nothing rational about it, and in normal everyday life I consider myself to be quite a laid back, sensible person  ::).   I'm 55 so should know better  ;D but there's something inside that makes all rational thought go straight out of the window when items of clothing in those colours are concerned.

It goes back generations; my grandad, then my Dad, then me, now my son all follow Wednesday; in fact my daughter's initials are SWFC  :o (my wife wouldn't let me do the same with my son, which is quite ironic because my daughter couldn't care less about the game whereas my son is chip off the old block).  Go figure!!

And yes, you're absolutely right, the colours on the polo are spot on  ;)

Paul, it's not I haven't been exposed to a football supporting environment since I was a kid, quite the opposite: my father couldn't care less, but my Mum has been member of Valencia CF since her own childhood, like her Grandfather before her (he took her as a mere toddler to Mestalla) and still keeps 3 passes/seats in the stadium. She's been involved in lobbies and Valencia's supporters' clubs, even as a member of the club Foundation.

On the other side, my father-in-law was a professional football player -goalkeeper for Valencia CF, Sabadell and other clubs in the 60s- and professional coach later, so football runs in his family's blood too; in fact, my son's been playing in grassroots teams (including Valencia CF again) since he was 4 years old (he's 16 now).

But as it happens football has taken with the passing years a backseat to my other passions and interests, and I'm able to see that whole world from a cold, objective point of view that's at odds with the familiar hot, guts approach of the regular supporter, and yes, as you point out, to support a club IS a feeling, nothing rational about it (it's even funny when you think about it: for instance, when your team wins a match you really feel it's your victory, not just theirs). Even then, what I can't stomach or excuse is hooliganism or football aggro, it seems to me football becomes then an excuse to eschew self-control and indulge in mass mindless behaviour.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to defend a person's right to wear a "Weller", also ::)
Read an article in an old GQ, Writer said "Don't bring a picture of a Celebrity to a barber". He recounted how in school , he brought a Picture of Joe Strummer to his barber, who gave him a exact copy of Joe's "do".
Only problem was it looked bad on him. Where Strummer had a very "angular" face, this guy had a round-ish face.
Didn't look right.
That said, if you have a shape that'll work with a "Weller"( and BTW: you know he didn't invent that cut,
it's older than he is) and you can get a barber to do it right (seen a few really bad ones), do it.
End of Rant ;)

As you point out, Mike, one has to be wary, more so at a certain age, of his own choices. And even then, sartorial faux pas can go somewhat unnoticed if they're minor, but a wrong haircut stands out too much. I agree with you about the same hairdo looking right on a geezer and totally wrong on other. GQ advice is bang on.

Which "Weller" are we talking about anyway? The spiky Jam's hair, the varying TSC cuts, the dreaded Elf cut or last years' "old lady" straight mane? TBH if I still had hair to style, nowadays I wouldn't go for any of them but of course everyone has the right to cut their hair as they please, that's out of the question.

Guys, I get what you mean, as football is almost a religion for many people here too, but you'll have to admit that colour-hating stuff is taking things a bit too far  ;D. I mean, here no one's going to spit on me for wearing a Barça-like purple/blue top (even if only because another Valencia's team, Levante FC, sports the same colours on their shirts  ;D). I guess we Mediterranean folks don't take sport rivalries so seriously.

BTW, Paul, by what you say about your own team, I bet my polo is kosher for you!  ;)

We have a couple of guys around these parts who have been deep into that Brian Jones/ West Coast/ UFO Club thing for over 25 years now. Ruffled shirts, striped trousers, even the odd cape along with the whole Regency thing. Its kind of endearing they have stuck with it for so long, but that Brian Jones haircut does`nt do you any favours when your in your late forties.

Tell that to Weller wannabes, Matt  ;D

I agree Mendoza catering to a more mid-to-late-60s-inspired, younger crowd (guess Mike is a fan  ;)), but always offer some interesting garments in their site (especially knits and yes, strides). I quite like some, but wearing them is a different proposition.
If I were younger, I might have a look at some of that. I didn't see much I would wear today. The "Flares" are too flared for me (10"). Some of the long wool coats maybe, but no capes :o !
(Edit: Actually, just posted in the "Last Item You Bought" thread, the new suit I ordered)

Yep, Mike, even fans of the mid-60s look try to tone it down to an age-appropriate level, if they have common sense and a mirror at home, that is. I've seen in FB, though, a guy that nails the regency post-66 peacock look: ruffled shirts, velvet coats 'n' all. He looks still young-ish -Brian Jones hairdo included- but I'm sure he's over 40. Anyway he's got an awesome collection of vtg London trendy boutiques' clobber (Hung on You, Kitchener, Granny Takes a Trip...)

Who's the psychedelic dandy, do you know?

Peter Feely from Derby is always immaculate, and has an incredible vintage collection - used to do the Perfume Garden events in the Midlands.

Robin, I wasn't going to mention names, but as you've identified the guy...  ;)

Have`nt bought the last Stone Foundation album as their previous albums were kind of samey to my ears. I feel the albums are a couple of killer songs short in getting the albums across the line. The same as a live act.

TBH, I just have their earlier album (the second-to-last) and while not a masterpiece, I enjoyed it a lot, kind of uplifting, well-arranged and played neosoul & funk. But the gig they played here was outstanding, with the band firing on all cylinders and, most important of all, managing that difficult task of fully connecting with the audience. Later, their bassist highlighted the Valencia gig as the best in their Spanish tour.

Like the color combo of the stripes on that, GS.

Cheers, Mike, that's what attracted me of it in the first place. There were another two colorways, nice in their own right, but not SO nice  8)

I am afraid that in the first pic it looks very similar to a Green*ck M*rton top so l am out .

Had to google that, Simon. Hey, what's the thing with football there? you lot should relax  ;). I remember some similar reactions when I posted a pic in FB with an orange top: "I'd never wear a garment with orange in it because it's like the Whatever FC shirt". Yep and if so, what's the matter? Are the masses going to crucify you in a street corner of your neighbourhood?

Rod, glad to hear from you! I swear it's the light outside  ;D, combined with a cheap phone, mind you
