Top of the pops 1979

Quite an interesting edition of Top of the pops shown on BBC4 last thursday.
1st. act was The Jam doing strange town, with Weller looking very revolver era Beatles in a db jacket with velvet collar & John Lennon style shades.
The thing that made me smile was later on, Peter Powell was introducing some instantly forgetable soft rock band surrounded by lads in parkas. Some of whom I recoginised from the revival section of Terry Rawlins Mods book.
Stylistically, they drew inspiration from the sleek, sharp and minimal suit favoured by the avant-garde musicians of the East Coast jazz movement. Philosophically, early Mods saw themselves as ‘citizens of the world’, a world in which it only mattered where you were going, not where you came from
