Sweet but Deadly presents

WIDE EYED
Thursday May 22nd

There's definitely something in the air in Europe. The Beatles-in-Hamburg spirit is back, a time when Ray Charles and Chuck Berry were Kings, and it's being taken up by folk who weren't even born for its second coming in Medway.

This new wave of bands making BEATSTER ROCK are mixing their sound from a variety of sources - the 50s rhythm rockers, the 60s RnB of early Small Faces and The Yardbirds, the 70s clank of Dr. Feelgood & The Jam, and the 80s anti-posturing of Billy Childish’s Thee Milkshakes and Graham Day's The Prisoners - to create wild pop music of their own. Most of the people making it are perhaps best described as beatniks: modern and sussed, but not genre snobs. They're cool cats slurping at a few tasty saucers.

Wide Eyed attempts to bring this fledgling scene together under one banner at the fabulous new East End venture from the Blues Kitchen folk.

Really like the tunes on Orwell's SoundCloud so aiming to pop down to this...

Has the Blues Kitchen just taken over the pub opposite Plastic People?
