Or this one: https://www.discogs.com/Mulatu-Astatke-New-York-Addis-London-The-Story-Of-Ethio-Jazz-1965-1975/release/7378151
As you know,  l have the former album but l can see that there is a bit of crossover on the track listing and indeed both albums have the track which l consider his best track and actually soothing for the soul. .
I wont make any deals with you , I've resigned. .
I wont be pushed, filed , stamped , indexed , briefed , debriefed OR NUMBERED!

Sharhabil Ahmed - The King of Sudanese Jazz. Flagged up to me by the always reliable Monkey Picks (formerly of this parrish), it was completely new to me, but I've now played it 3 times since yesterday. This is the opening track:

Check the album out, you won't be disappointed.  8)

Good stuff, Nick! Kind of arabic music meets garage rock; well, not exactly that but lively, vibrant music with obvious Western influences and an unmistakably Mid-Eastern tinge.Apparently Mulatu Astakte is a deep influence of Sharhabil and it shows.

I'm not familiar with Mulatu Astakte, one for the always expanding list, Rafa!

Nick - this is a good one to start with for Astakte

Listening now, Ady, good stuff. Cheers!

JP Bimeni and the black belts,

Backing band, the Black Belts remind me of the Dap Kings.

I only just heard this Burundian singer on the BBC World Service the other day. Fantastic voice. Will have to order his album soon.

Hey Becky,

You must get the album as it's superb. It was No.9 in my 2018 Top 20 review of the year:
