Compilations
« on: June 03, 2014, 12:01:17 PM »
As father's day is fast approaching no doubt there'll be adverts for Now That's What I Call Mod etc.
There are loads of really good compilations out there though. Two particular faves of mine are 'At The Club' on Kent and 'From Route 66 To The Flamingo'
Any others out there worth a punt?

I've a number of the "Mod Jazz" series on Kent, they do really nice "Comps".
Mostly have to order them from Amazon, my local store doesn't usually carry them... they told me most Jazz guys don't buy the compilations.

Which I can understand, because most of the other ones are fairly bad... "easy listening Jazz" for people who don't like jazz!

This one's great and ultra-cheap (BTW, I have a soft spot for From route 66 to the Flamingo too  :) ):

And I think there's a new installment in the "Mod Jazz" Kent comps on the way.

Despite the title that's a pretty good line up.Ta.

Another good, basic comp - and obscenely cheap : http://www.modculture.co.uk/budget-mod-jazz-walk-on-the-wild-side-the-jazz-side-of-mod-collection/

The Soul Jazz comps are great and I can't recommend the "New Orleans Funk" series enough. Which reminds me about their 1/2/3/4/500 % Dynamite series - brilliant if you like your reggae.

Kent New Breed R&B comps are great - and JTH's "Club Soul" shout can't be bettered for a classic 60's soul comp.

Don't be put off by its title (Dancing By Myself - Lost In Northern Soul) this is more in keeping with Kent's birth of soul series of 60s R'n'B/soul than northern four to the floor footstompers.

and then there's this blues one (with Smiler's sleevenotes)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Britain-Got-Blues-Mods/dp/B00FXXWSE0/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1401825681&sr=1-1&keywords=how+britain+got+the+blues

And I agree wholeheartedly with Greenstreet as Route 66 to the Flamingo is possibly my favourite mod compilation
And will you shorten the sleeves, love? I'm not a gorilla.

My teenage son bought me that one for Xmas - totally agree - a good selection - despite the title (& having most of the tracks on vinyl) I've played this quite a few times
