Source for furniture legs
« on: September 19, 2014, 05:56:05 PM »
Evening all.

I'm toying with the idea of a bit of an 'Ikea hack' to create a mid-century style TV cabinet.

The challenge I'm facing is finding the slim, tapered wooden legs I need.

This kind of thing...

http://www.ikeahackers.net/2013/08/lack-turned-mid-century-modern-coffee-table.html

There seem to be options in the US - see here http://retrorenovation.com/2014/02/04/mid-century-modern-retro-table-legs/

and http://www.homedepot.com/p/Waddell-6-in-Hardwood-Round-Taper-Leg-2506/100672298#.UcD66vbFQqI

The only options I've found in the UK are up in the 75 range, which defeats the object of the exercise - and even if the US websites ship internationally, the costs will be prohibitive.

Any suggestions?

You can buy them on ebay. I made a storage cabinet recently for our bedroom and used Dansette legs that I bought from ebay. Here is the finished article:

Excuse the unfinished skirting....it's on my list!!

I bought solid teak legs from this seller to upgrade my IKEA sofa. If you're on a budget http://www.ikeahackers.net/ is a great site for inspiration to make your furniture unique.

Just have a look out on Etsy and Ebay because it'll show up now and then.
