fame (he also was an unforgettable Hitchcock baddie and won a belated Oscar for
Ed Wood
), has died at 89.

Another childhood hero. I guess with most of us growing up seeing these sort of guys on telly during the 1960s and early 70s when they were in their prime they are all hitting that sort of age now. For me SPACE:1999 is the standout as a Sci-Fi and Gerry Anderson fan. However he looked sharp in NORTH BY NORTHWEST and of course as master of disguise Rollin Hand in MISSION:IMPOSSIBLE. Fantastic performance in ED WOOD too. Met him a few years back. An absolute top guy full of great stories and humour. Sad news.
