Clothes shops in London
« on: September 09, 2017, 04:24:44 PM »
Are there any other shops to add to the below list I should be visiting that I don't know about for Mod, 60s & 70s clothing?
(never have any luck with second hand shops so looking for new)

Modfather - Camden
Fred Perry -  Seven Dials & Henrietta St.
Peter Werth -  Seven Dials
John Simons - Marleybone
Sherrys - Carnably St.
Adams - Portabello Rd.

I'd give Sherry's a swerve unless you enjoy being hassled the second you walk through the door.

How about...

Stuarts - Shepherd's Bush
Oi Oi The Shop - Camden Market (Skin / Suede stuff... stocks lots of Mikkel Rude shirts)

Maybe also try...

Blitz - Brick Lane (Scott Fraser Simpson used to have a great vintage rail there)
Vintage Showroom - Covent Garden (Mixture of vintage + new)

Second Stuarts and Mendoza. Great shops.

I would avoid Sherrys though. That shop is like a rite of passage for aspiring mods in London. Everyone goes once and then never goes again if they can help it.
Off. James 'Jimmy' McNulty: You know what they call a guy who pays that much attention to his clothes, don't you?

Det. William 'Bunk' Moreland: A grown-up.

Oi Polloi (Soho) and the John Smedley shop in Mayfair might also be worth a visit.

And put me down as another who'd recommend avoiding Sherry's!

Don't forget fabric shops. Soho market has some interesting stuff with some new places in the last few years opening up. Lots of silks etc.
I personally recommend Joel and Sons near Edgware Rd Tube. For shirt material they are quite simply the best in the UK. As you walk up to it from the tube you pass some other fabric shops which have lots of sari material but also suiting of quite a high quality.

Not mod but Liberty for the colours, I visited last time I was there and coming out again all other shop windows looked so grey...
