Girlfriend album is great GS. Not a bad song on it. Yes he's never reached those heights on recent releases.

Here's the latest spitfires one for you.

The JUDY DYBLE/ ANDY LEWIS and CHILDHOOD albums have just arrived; I'll give them a spin over the weekend and report back!

I haven't listened to the Childhood álbum, but you won't be disappointed with the JD/AL one, Ady, beautiful music and the lady still sings like an angel.

@Woody, I can't link the R. Stevie Moore/Falkner Lp directly to Matthew Sweet stuff, but I see why you made the connection. Some brilliant, classy songs in that record, but all in all I think the more electronic tracks, the spoken word interludes and the instros hamper what otherwise would be a great album. Ill-managed eclecticism, IMO.

Seeing as childhood featured so high in most our best of 2017 lists , I add this link to singer ben's latest side project. Not sure I particularly like the tune but interesting video featuring a young modette looking like an extra from 'this is England'

I really like the ambience of the JUDY DYBLE/ ANDY LEWIS album, the way that the songs are subtly augmented by sound effects and snatches of radio announcements which remind me of a band called Broadcast.  Fave track is A Message: there's just something about it that puts me in mind of the Flaming Lips.
I highly rate the CHILDHOOD album as well.  Don't Have Me Back's production is everything Weller's Respond label's releases strived to sound like but were never quite as good as this little gem.

I'm expecting CLIENTELE and CURTIS HARDING albums to arrive today...
And will you shorten the sleeves, love? I'm not a gorilla.

...and the Curtis Harding album is superb!  It's been on constant repeat.  It's the modern soul album I've waited a long time to hear.  It has a nod to early 70s Gaye and Mayfield and even a bit of very early 80s Bowie (Dream Girl does remind me of his Scary Monsters era) without sounding derivative.  Can't speak highly enough of this album.
