Not the first musician that comes to mind when hard-bop is discussed, but if you think about it, Benny Golson was one of the individuals that, mainly through his tunes, shaped the sound and had a certain amount of commercial impact with it in the late 50s-early 60s, with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers ("Blues March") or the Jazztet ("Killer Joe"). Both bands pop up in this Downbeat Profile of the sax man full of interesting trivia.
