Mod things I've never worn
« on: April 30, 2018, 04:08:10 PM »
I was looking in my wardrobe at my clothes and shoes the other day and I realised that there are some Mod classics I have never owned or worn. Bowling shoes (including the famous Jam shoes), desert boots and Paisley patterned shirts for example.

I wondered what other Mod fashions have passed you by?
Life is too short to listen to s**t music

Since 1979 I've probably gone through the lot to be honest but the more 'lairy' stuff back as a teenager. However I can say hand on heart never bowling shoes or boating blazers.

Good thread, Leon, though I seem to recall that a similar discussion popped up in another thread some years ago. Anyway, +1 regarding Jam shoes (but I must admit that's just because it was hard to get them here in the early 80s) and boating blazers. But I've worn parkas and (black) bowling shoes. Oh, and yes, paisley shirts. I have a mohair/wool suit too, does it qualify as "tonic"?

Yeah good topic.
Like Martin said I’ve been through most of the stuff, including some regrettable choices in my youth. Had jam shoes, parka etc in the revival years.

I have four boating blazers acquired with a sudden rush of blood to the head when I rededicated to the Mod style around 2010. I was aiming at a career in academia and thought they would be great for Friday lectures. Any questions or comments would be met with the imperious response of an eccentric professor from England. My career went in a different directions and they haven’t seen much light.

Around that time I searched all over for bowling shoes. When I finally got some that fit the bill they’ve stayed in my cupboard ever since.

Never had paisley shirts, polka dot shirts, beagle collar shirts but I associate that with swirly psychedelics which is at the opposite end of ‘the look’ from where I stand.

Seems I'm similar to most so far , managed to avoid stuff l thought was a bit obvious despite having the parka because it was practical on the scooter. I have never had: Jam shoes of any variety , boating blazer , Walabees , bowling shoes, never had those suede cord shoes that were popular once or anything with a Union flag on it either. .oh aye , nearly fugoat , I don't have any cardi's with pockets either but I have waaay tooo many polo shirts of both short and long sleeved variety. . ;D
I wont make any deals with you , I've resigned. .
I wont be pushed, filed , stamped , indexed , briefed , debriefed OR NUMBERED!

Ha I knew I would forget some things. Ta for the nudge Simon.
Desert treks, wallabies, playboys, cord shoes - nah.
Can’t see myself ever wanting or needing a cardigan.
Nor anything corduroy.
