Well, I know this will be anathema for you lovers of the 2-stroke engine, but for the green minded gentlemen here this spanish-made electric scoot could be an acceptable alternative to the classics:

That's a rather nice looking scooter. I'm not about to buy one but I would give it a second glance if I saw it drive past me.

Interestingly Retrospective Scooters in London are doing electric conversions for the Classic Vespa shape (their project one is a Primavera). Not cheap by any means. There is also going to be an E series Motorcycle championship next year so the technology could well start to trickle down and bring price down. There are numerous Lambrettas around with Auto engines, electric engines may be next...

In fact they have, Mike, due to appear this year. But nothing to write home about in the aesthetic department:

It's a modern looking bike, looks like a new Vespa which doesn't bother me.
 Better than those Asian mass market scooters that look like the illegitimate child of a "Transformer" and a Nike sneaker, IMO.
