Shag's work was popular enough to spawn imitations. There was a local guy here who called himself "Slaw" doing the same style of art.

For something in the same vein, but a bit "darker", this is one of my fav local artists: http://www.glbarr.com/gallery/

Mike,

Some of those paintings remind me of the classic JH Lynch ones from the 60's.

That's what I like about this place. Keeping in touch with like-minded mates and discovering new (to me) artists, music, clothing brands, TV, films... Thanks for your input, lads.

Mike,

Just a thought,

Do you think that Slaw was maybe Shag doing a bit on the side! ;)

Actually, "Slaw" was in the auto business same time I was, so I did meet him... no, it wasn't the same guy. I saw shows by both of them at a gallery (at different times, of course). ;)

Barr's style on some of his work does look like the Lynch paintings, I knew it looked familiar, but didn't know why till I saw your post!

I really like this guy's stuff:

If memory serves, the artist, Steve Millington, was a poster on the previous incarnation of this forum
