Some pictures from Mods May Day 2019 in Turin..

Location: Off Topic club in the northern area of the city. A not too

big and not too small club, with concert hall, two bars and a garden

with enough space for the scooters

Monica and me..  ;)

Mod Talk: the beginning of  Mod in italy as remembered by Tony "Face"

Baciocchi, one of the original Mods from Piazza Mercanti (Milan). Very

interesting

The Bands:

I Rudi (Milan, 2010) The new kids on the block are promoting their

second album with a bunch of live acts. Beat and garage rock with a

hint of soul.

Made (La Spezia, 1996) Power pop with a 90s twist. They released two

albums so far.

Statuto (Turin) THE italian Mod band since 1983! And they're still knocking around

The Coys (Reggio Emilia, 1983) One of the best italian Mod band,

between Kinks and Purple Hearts

The Five Faces (Genoa, 1980) One the first italian Mod bands

The Mads (Milan, 1979) Possibly the first Mod band in Italy. They

didn't released much (demos only) back then but they are still good

nowadays and they hit the shelves in 2017-18 with a brand new album ("The Orange Plane" )

and two singles. Richard Searle played one of their singles during his

weekly Well Suspects Records Radio Show and PaulWellerNews launched their

"Strange Town" video last week.

The DJs: DJ Henry (aka Enrico Lazzeri) original Milan Mods with his

classic soul tunes,

Piergiorgio Baiardo (Genoa) classic mod sounds,

spanning from early Rnb to 79 and Andrea Cumiana (Turin) one of the

best DJs when it comes to jamaican sounds/Ska/Blue Beat/rocksteady

I went to a mod weekender there for New Years Eve 91/92 and I think Statuto played then too!

Sounds like you had a great time and a decent event mate. Almost like a convention with speakers too. Good balance of styles of music and then rounding it off with DJs seems to be the way many of the larger events are done these days. Brighton and Margate for example do seem to cater across the board regardless of what aspect of the whole Mod thing you are into and this event looks similar. Great photos and review mate. Cheers.
