I have 2 pairs of Clarks I must have bought 10+ years ago that are still holding up.
Wonder if the Uniqlo ones would last that long

Fiscally, they would only have to last half that time and you'd still be quids in . .

Then you'd buy another pair, thus paying just as much as the initial Clarks, which lasted twice as long

Interesting hypothesis.  Desert boots are the kind of boots that look better with a bit of wear  . One might just hang onto them thus negating another purchase.  .

With you on this, Simon: even lesser quality dessies can last a long time with an adequate footwear rotation. Mike, I also have Clarks shoes and boots, but the M&S are holding up quite well, so no complaints for now. Can't vouch about Uniqlo's quality tho'.

Moot point for me  either way, they don't offer shoes in my size.

As usual, Uniqlo launch yet another take on the Harrington (G9 in this case): pros: outer fabric is 100% cotton, they offer a couple interesting colours aside of the classic navy and tan (the green in the picture and a red/burgundy) and of course the price (50 €); cons: no umbrella yoke or flap pockets, but still a decent-looking jacket to knock about:

I've actually had a pair of dessies resoled before now, he took it down to the leather and glued on new crepes

Didn't know they would do that and l suppose one would have to find the right cobblers. .
