I've heard it's too much like filmed theatre, like the case with the recent film "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom", which wasn't bad but too theatrical to be really appealing as a movie.

I saw the Ma Rainey one too. Wasn't that impressed but I'll try the Miami one anyway.

Found a film called Sophies Love completely by accident. Watched it yesterday and enjoyed it.
Set in the late 50s and moves on to 63.

I'm not sure if I'd say "good" movies (at least one of 'em)
"The Girl on the Motorcycle" late 60's film starring Marianne Faithful and Alain Delon...As an actress, she's a fantastic singer! ;D
And "Un Flic" again with Delon. this one had some great sets and clothes. French Cop film from early 60's...

Yep, it also sounded more early 70s than 60s to me (for a cool early 60s Delon movie, check out Les Félins, with Jane Fonda and a terrific soundtrack by Lalo Schiffrin). Haven't watched myself Girl on a Motorcycle, but judging by the reviews and mates' opinions it won't be recorded on the 7th Art annals.  ;D
