Films / TV / Go Go Where? 4 Corners story
« on: November 30, 2021, 03:40:30 AM »
If anyone was interested to see what it like in 1966 Australia, here's a snippet for you. Normie Rowe wasn't at all Mod, but not long after this footage was taken, he'd end up joining the Army and going off to Vietnam. I actually met Normie a few years back when he played a gig in Ballarat. I met Colin Beard - one of the few photographers in this story - years before when I used to live in Melbourne and got him to sign my copy of Tomorrow is Today, a great book chronicling the Aussie psychedelic scene between 1967 - 1970, which I think you are still able to get.

Another legend has now passed.

"Little" Millie Small, bluebeat and ska pioneer. Somehow when I re-watch the TV special, Around The Beatles won't be the same.  :'(

Hi guys!

I know it's been a while since I've been on here, been very busy. Between a housing inspection today, various job search activities (interviews etc) and CWA (similar to the UK's Women's Institute) activities, I've had no time to be on here...
Now that I can relax a little, I thought I'd share this... F'king pitiful and no, he is not a Mod and never will be...  :D Maybe it's a good thing I'm not living in the UK...

Apologies to my Mod Revivialist friends... I like the Mod Revival music, but my heart's true to the 1960s original Mod scene!

Although Patti wasn't a favourite of all the 1960s era Beatle wives/1960s models, she offers an interesting perspective in this interview about Mary Quant. It was written to coincide with the current V&A exhibition I'm trying to save an airline ticket for...  :)

Here's a few items from Review Australia's current collection that may make an appearance in my wardrobe once some other items are paid off!  ;)

Bonus, they do ship overseas. So, if you want to grab your missus something nice, Review Australia is one of the few [womens] labels I recommend from my part of the world!  :)

General music chat / RIP Ray Columbus... NZ Modfather
« on: December 01, 2016, 05:51:18 AM »
I know Ray Columbus normally wouldn't normally strike a chord for most of you that are from the UK, but I just found out that NZ's own Modfather, Ray Columbus (Ray Columbus & the Invaders) had passed away on the 29th November.  :'(

He was quite a legend in both of the New Zealand and Australian [Mod] music scene during the 1960s, alongside his fellow New Zealander, Dinah Lee. Ray had his most successful hit "She's A Mod" on the Zodiac label in 1964 and as of five years ago, wrote an autobiography about being a musician and growing up in New Zealand. I intend buying this book next week as an early Xmas present to myself.'we-were-mods'-ray-columbus-in-his-own-words
