The Rock Sects In by the Downliners Sect. Some pretty good stuff on here like Outside, Comin Home Baby and Fortune Teller.

Not their best LP, IMO, that honour should go to the first, a real Brit r&b feast, but as you say, some decent songs there. Anyway, better than their misguided "Country" album.
Yeah, I prefer their first album too. As for their 'country' one. Well......

Anymore contributions folks. Would love to see your choices.

Ok Mo, I'll have a go. In no particular order:

The Eyes - I'm Rowed Out
Cyril Davis - Country Line Special
The Beat Merchants - Pretty Face
The Shots - Keep A Hold Of What You Got
Brian Auger and The Trinity - Black Cat
The Clique - We Didn't Kiss etc
Mark Leemon 5 - Gotta Get Myself Together
Pretty Things - Don't Bring Me Down
The Primitives - Help Me
The Brand - I'm A Lover Not A Fighter

Great stuff there. The only track I don't think I'm aware of is Gotta Get myself Together. I'll check that out.

You're going to end up an expert in Brian Jones, Mo!  ;)

Ha ha, I'm not sure about that RAFA
Anyway, I've ordered the remaining 11 issues of these little beauts. Should be here any day now.

Mo,

I've got loads of vinyl from the 3 bands you mention, amongst others.  I think Merton Parkas were forever tainted by You Need Wheels, which was probably the weakest track they recorded; why that was chosen as the first single, I'll never know.  Their album, Face in the Crowd, is actually quite good (in my opinion obviously) and Flat 19, which appears on the first Eddie Pillar Mod Revival album above, is probably my favourite track by them.

I know they are all 'of their time', but I can't deny my roots and i do still like to listen to them when the mood takes me  ;).

I was pretty much like your good self. I bought a fair amount at the time also including the Lambrettas, Secret Affair, The Circles and Squire.
You're probably right about You Need Wheels. I might have to listen to the Parkas album. It's been many many moons now, Chilli.
Generally, I prefer The Prisoners, though not what I'd call a Mod Revival band.
One single I wish I kept was Love is Dead by Small World.

Yeah, both the Prisoners and Small World came along a few years after the initial revival and both definitely fit within the broad 'Mod' umbrella though might not be described as out and out Mod bands (whatever they are!!).  I loved both bands, unfortunately I never got to see Small World and never managed to get hold of Love is Dead or First Impressions, which is another fantastic track by them in my opinion.  I have got two Small World tapes (remember them!!) from the fan club of which I was a member; a live tape and a demo tape. Got a couple of Prisoners albums, which also regularly get played here at Chilli Mansions.

Saw the Prisoners a few times, as well as JTQ on a Thames cruise organised by Eddie Pillar (good times!!).

Completely forgot about First Impressions. That was a good track for sure.
Now, this is sick. A few years back I came under tremendous financial pressure and oh dear, I sold virtually all my original Prisoners stuff. Thankfully I still have the 12 inch When I'm Gone. Went to see them a few times including the farewell at the 100 Club.

That's a bummer Mo, unfortunately not uncommon.  One of my mates who I go to Rare Soul events with (hopefully again soon  ;)) had a wicked soul collection but had to sell up when he lost his job and couldn't get another for an age.  He eventually got back on his feet, but once he was in a position to restart his vinyl collection the price of rare soul records had skyrocketed and wasn't able to replace many of the records he's sold.  I guess with the advent of streaming and YouTube and the like, it's not so much of an issue now if you just want to listen to the music, but I still prefer, where possible, to hear the crackles and pops that you often get with old vinyl.
I was devastated at the time, Chilli but I will get around to replacing them.
Great listening to stuff by you do HAVE to own the recordings whether record or CD.
I didn't mention a very similar thing happened with my Who 45s too. Heartbreaking. I Can't Explain up to and including Pinball Wizard. Even the non picture cover Ready Steady Who. It wasn't a decision I took lightly I can tell you. Thankfully I kept the albums.

Just started reading yet another book on Brian Jones. This one is called Foundation Stone and its pretty much all about his very early days growing up in Cheltenham and the music that was influencing him.

Love this track but also love the videos this guy puts together on a lot of his uploads.  If you've ever got a bit of time on your hands it's worth exploring his channel.

Don't seem to be any uploads for 2 years now but plenty of stuff on there.

Can't believe how good this is.

Fantastic stuff

I would've loved to have seen Cyril Davis. He could blow a mean harp.

What about a crowfunding campaign for a time machine, Mo?  ;)

Sounds good to me, RAFA. 😁
