Sorry Rod but that's awful I've seen better dressed kids wearing shell suits on the terraces...there's pushing the edges and falling off the end of the Earth.

Pics of kids and details on where to cop shell suits?

;D ;D

Mod fashion and style / Re: Clothing (And Accessories) Goals For 2022?
« on: January 07, 2022, 12:23:40 AM »
Following on from the ĎFavourite Acquisition in 2021í thread, I wonder what goals the board members have for this year?
For the last couple of years I made a list early in the year of what I was hoping to get. It always starts out being fairly short as I donít NEED anything, but plenty of WANTS tend to crop up as the year unfolds!!
This year Iím after a bright blue short sleeve gingham shirt, a shantung straw Panama hat and not much else. I may need to replace my Seavees knocking about / school run slip ons. Looking at leather versions by Johnstone and Murphy.
I reserve the right to add to this list as the year goes on!
I mentioned elsewhere recently that more working from home has reduced the frequency of my Ďdressed upí rotation so I spent a lot more dough on 2021 on accessories - watches and sunglasses, which are worn daily no matter what - than on clothes. Thatís why I added Ďaccessoriesí to the thread title.
If JMM puts out the perfect set of frames Iíll jump on.
Iíve also been successful last year in my perennial wish to get rid of unwanted gear and have about $4k in my eBay stash. That will either go on an Omega moon watch or a Billy Duffy signature Gretsch White Falcon - both of which I need like a hole in the head!

What are you looking to get this year?

I bought a "pandemic"  '61 reissue Gibson SG w/ Maestro "vibrato" (same model Harrison used on "Revolver") about a year ago.

As for this year, I guess I'm not looking for anything in particular. I tend to buy when something catches my eye.
Wish I was as organized as you guys... ;D

I really dislike the way AoL pose their clothes.
Red Steve had a few AoL suits / jackets IIRC which always seems to look very decent on him but their publicity pics always seem to have them with all three buttons fastened and rifldiculous waist suppression that looks both unrealistic and disagreeably feminine.

Iíve never shopped there and itís on my Ďbucket listí to swing by whenever Iím next in The Smoke (I think they have a new retail space) but if/when I do make it I hope their gear looks more like Red Steve and less like their website pics. Why do they do that?
Seriously Rod, they don't look like the pix, I have probably 6 of the suits, and they're fine. Slightly wasited, but nothing I can't handle at my advanced age (and I'm not as skinny as Jagger, that's for sure).

They've got the traditional spot in West London, and a new one in Central that I haven't been to yet

Nice that they moved Central tho - you can do Bar Italia, AoL, and then John Simons within easy walking distance
Would love to see the new shoppe as well.

To comment on that, I stopped in their store a few years back and found the suits to be similar to the pics in fit, meaning that seemed more for the V shaped man (narrow waist, wider shoulders). I think we get into the realm of suits cut for different body types. I like AoL's stuff, just doesn't fit me as well as other brands.
I've been buying their suits since the mid 2000's. In the photos, they tie the waist in. It's exaggerated in the shots, they are waisted, but not that severely. They also don't pad the shoulders now as heavily as in my my older jackets.  Believe me, I don't have an "hour glass figure" :o  and the jackets fit me fine...

Very you too, Mike!

It's actually surprisingly more  "conservative" looking in reality G...

I know what you mean, Mike, those promotional pics of AoL tend to emphasize the exaggerated waist supression, hour-glass silhouette. Fortunately their actual garments are more suited to real bodies!  ;D
Maybe I re watched "Get Back" one too many times:
(But also after thumbing through "Black Ivy", the "Subversive Ivy Look" is looking pretty sharp.)

Going to check this out later streaming on the Criterion Channel

Cult classic. Another contemporary British cult movie, "Babylon", is currently on Netflix

"Babylon" was a good one, saw it a few years back at a theater... The camera work in "Radio On" alone is worth the watch... the director used Wim Wenders cinematographer

It shows, Radio On is visually striking. Truth is I watched it many years ago but the trailer has reminded me of the great cinematography. And Sting! (fortunately he doesn't dance) ;D
It reminded me of early Jim Jarmusch, minus any humor... anything Wim Wenders does I'm there. I might have mentioned this at some point but check out "Paloma Shooting"too
