RIP Ray Columbus... NZ Modfather
« on: December 01, 2016, 05:51:18 AM »
I know Ray Columbus normally wouldn't normally strike a chord for most of you that are from the UK, but I just found out that NZ's own Modfather, Ray Columbus (Ray Columbus & the Invaders) had passed away on the 29th November.  :'(

He was quite a legend in both of the New Zealand and Australian [Mod] music scene during the 1960s, alongside his fellow New Zealander, Dinah Lee. Ray had his most successful hit "She's A Mod" on the Zodiac label in 1964 and as of five years ago, wrote an autobiography about being a musician and growing up in New Zealand. I intend buying this book next week as an early Xmas present to myself.

I'm pretty sure I've listened to one of his songs in some 60s comp, seems he was kind of a mythic figure in the down under scene. Rest in Peace.
