Decent looking cardie mi hermano. It us certainly quite a rare pattern and 100% wool is becoming harder to acquire.
I love cardies as long as they have no pockets and all of mine have fitba buttons in leather apart from the FP one l have which has fake leather buttons  even though it was over £100. I hadn't been wearing mine because it got warmer but now we are back to single figure on the  C scale , l had better look them back out . .have a great weekend hombre , hasta luego!

Yep, I heard that weather is getting harsher up there, hermano, so dust off those cardigans!  ;) Good shout on the leather buttons; I replaced the original plastic ones with them in a Muji shawl collar cardie and it really looked much better, maybe I repeat the trick here.

Bring that man a pipe and rocking chair!!😄😄 That made me chuckle (don’t forget the slippers!)
Actually it’s a decent version there Syd, looks better on the close up pic which pops the colours better. You know I like the red and blue combo.

I don’t own any cardigans and there is often a Perry Como / Val Doonigan connotation - especially if they’re in cream / beige / brown tones, but some of them look OK. I’m still open to getting a polo collared cardigan if and when I find the right one. I was in for a FP version last year but they buggered up my order and by the time I reordered they were out of stock so we’ll see what they come up with when their winter gear is released.

When the revival was dying out in the early eighties there were a bunch of lads round ours that we called “sunshine boys” or “softies”. They were into jangly guitar music like the Smiths, Lotus Eaters, some of the Glasgow scene* bands, Orange Juice, Housemartins, Aztec Camera etc. Their uniform seemed to be doc Martin shoes, baggy faded jeans, white polos and beige cardigans with leather football buttons. I think a few ex Mods crossed over into that scene.  They were harmless and there was never any friction with them but maybe that cemented my dislike of the grandad cardigan.

As for the Glasgow scene, there were loads of bands coming out of there for a while and even some of those who never made it were still decent. Simple Monds were problies the most famous. The Waterboys were poised for world domination before Mike Scott moved to Ireland to be a wandering folk troubadour! I got to see (and meet) Love and Money loads of times and they were severely under-rated. I also remember Simon Bates playing ‘Slide’ by The Big Dish touting them as the next big thing but they went nowhere ... except playing in our student Union at Leeds Carnegie where they went through their whole set and got ‘encored’ so many times they ran out of songs and played ‘Slide’ three times! Sad that they didn’t ‘make it’ either.

I don’t write about music much as it’s so subjective and divisive but that period in the mid eighties was a brilliant era for creativity and eclectic tastes.

The slippers!!!  ;D I knew I forgot something!

I love a good digression, as long as it doesn't turn into pointless rambling, so I'm glad to give you the chance. The bands you talk about were quite popular among some of my friends then. None of them impressed me that much but some did decent records. Their fans here wore plaid shirts buttoned up and high hairdos and yes, DM shoes and boots  ;D.

A little warmer today , the BBC weather saying it will be warmer next week but the forecast is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard . Yeah , the leather buttons seem to be readily available on ebay , l changed the ones on my sheepskin also made it look that bit sharper.
I don't have any shawl collars on mine but l do have some button through polo's infact , l bought a couple from our esteemed sponsors at JtG last year that have seen little wear due to restrictions , next month l will take them on holiday. .
LET'S GO BRANDON!!

Damn you for the enabler you are Syd!
That post got me thinking about the FP cardigan I missed out on last year as that’s the best looking one (for me) that I’ve seen so far. Did some googling around and rolled up on one from an obscure mens shop in Ireland. Price seemed high but VAT subtracted and I’ve sold $100 worth of stuff on eBay today so it’s justified, right?
Let’s see if it ever gets delivered and if it’s any good I’ll post pics. More for the nippy weather than right now.

Seriously, wishing you the best of luck with that, Rod, fingers crossed. And of course, intrigued by the outcome.

Oddly, the one you're asking about is pretty similar to an A&Fitch top I bought last year, so thumbs up from me, of course. Though A&F are better quality than Next, and softer to the touch, I find Next tops decent stuff for the money. The one you've grabbed is quite nice too (and collars seem kosher)! 8). Only weird detail is the bottom button's extremely high placing!  :o

The polo arrived in the post today. The one I received actually had another button below the one in the picture so I was pleasantly surprised by that. While the last button isn't on the actual waistband it's about 2 inches from the bottom of the hem, so looks better. Well it would if I was skinny    :o
Do it well

These button through polo cardigans - I imagine that short sleeved versions are worn just the same as a conventional polo unless you’re going for the Jonny Drama look from Entourage (unbuttoned with wife beater on display!)
What about long sleeved versions. Do people wear them over a t shirt? Unbuttoned at the top with t shirt showing? Or more like a long sleeve polo or rugby shirt with either all buttons done or the top one only unbuttoned?
Just curious to learn what sort of variance of styles exists.

Long sleeve polo sweaters I have are all solid colors, w/o designs 3 button and I wear them buttoned up, Rugby top button undone, and short sleeve polo 50/50.  Top button done/undone depending.
T-shirt showing: Never.
